Ham and Cheese Sliders

Buttery, filled biscuits topped with seasoning and herbs.

Sliders are a fun and easy way to feed a crowd, and this baked ham and cheese version is a step up from the classic party tray. They’re made with sweet Hawaiian rolls, thinly sliced deli ham, and melty fontina cheese, then brushed with a savory honey mustard glaze and sprinkled generously with Everything but the Bagel seasoning.

The result is a warm, buttery pull-apart sandwich that’s great for game day, parties, or even a quick family dinner. Best of all, you can assemble these ahead of time and bake them just before serving. Pair them with chips, fries, or a side salad, and you’ve got an instant crowd-pleaser.

This version updates the classic old-fashioned party ham and cheese slider with a honey mustard and Everything but the Bagel seasoning. The sandwiches are assembled on split Hawaiian rolls and baked to perfection. I used fontina cheese in my recipe, and the sandwiches were a great success. The honey mustard and bagel seasoning mixture complemented the salty ham and melty cheese beautifully, and the buttery bagel seasoning topping added color and crunch. If you can’t find Everything but the Bagel seasoning in your area, you can order it online from Amazon or make this easy homemade everything bagel seasoning.

Ingredient Notes

  • Hawaiian rolls – Soft, slightly sweet pull-apart rolls make a perfect base for sliders.
  • Deli ham – Thinly sliced ham works best for even layering.
  • Fontina cheese – A good melty cheese that pairs well with ham. Swiss, cheddar, or provolone are also great options.
  • Butter – Used to make the glaze that soaks into the rolls and browns the tops.
  • Honey mustard – Adds tangy-sweet flavor to the glaze.
  • Everything bagel seasoning – Adds crunch and savory flavor. Use store-bought or homemade.
  • Worcestershire sauce – Deepens the savory flavor of the glaze.

Steps to Make Ham and Cheese Sliders

  1. Line a baking pan with parchment and preheat the oven.
  2. Melt the butter and mix most of it with the honey mustard, bagel seasoning, and Worcestershire to form a glaze.
  3. Slice the flat of rolls in half horizontally and spread the glaze over the cut sides.
  4. Layer ham and cheese evenly over the bottom half.
  5. Replace the top half and brush with the reserved butter. Sprinkle with the remaining bagel seasoning.
  6. Cover the pan with foil and bake until heated through. Uncover and bake a few more minutes to brown the tops.
  7. Slice and serve the sliders warm from the pan.

Recipe Variations

  • Swap the cheese. Try Swiss, provolone, cheddar, or mozzarella, depending on your taste.
  • Use turkey or roast beef. These sliders are delicious with other deli meats.
  • Add a layer of pickles. Thin dill pickle slices add a nice tangy contrast.
  • Make it spicy. Add a few dashes of hot sauce to the glaze or sprinkle with red pepper flakes.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve with potato chips, fries, or a simple green salad.
  • Add to a game day spread with chicken wings, dips, and veggie trays.
  • Pair with soup for a comforting lunch or dinner.

How to Store and Reheat

Refrigerate: Store leftover sliders in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Freeze? Not recommended, as the rolls may become soggy once thawed.

To Reheat: Wrap loosely in foil and reheat in a 350°F oven until warmed through.

⏲️ Make-Ahead Tip

Assemble the sliders up to one day ahead. Cover and refrigerate, then bake just before serving.
