Sliders are small, single-portion sandwiches typically served on a miniature bun or dinner roll. They can contain various fillings such as beef, chicken, ham, pork, or vegetables and are often served as a snack or appetizer.

Sliders are versatile, tasty, and convenient, and they have become a staple in American cuisine. Whether you’re looking for a quick snack or a fun dish to serve at your next party, sliders are a great option to consider.

This version updates the classic old-fashioned party ham and cheese slider with a honey mustard and Everything but the Bagel seasoning. The sandwiches are assembled on a split flat of Hawaiian rolls and baked to perfection. I used fontina cheese in my recipe, and the sandwiches were a great success. The honey mustard and bagel seasoning mixture complemented the salty ham and melty cheese beautifully, and the buttery bagel seasoning topping added color and crunch. If you can’t find Everything but the Bagel seasoning in your area, you can order it online from Amazon or make this easy homemade everything bagel seasoning.

Add chips or fries to make a meal out of these petite sandwiches, or serve them to your friends and family for a fantastic halftime snack. The ham and cheese sliders make a delicious appetizer as well and they are the perfect sandwich to serve for special occasions, neighborhood get-togethers, and kids’ parties. You can assemble them and pop them in the oven 20 minutes before you plan to serve them.

Preparation Notes

  • First, heat the oven to 350 F and line a 9-by-13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Hawaiian rolls are sold in flats, with all of the rolls connected to each other. Use a large serrated knife to carefully slice them in half horizontally. Try to keep the two sections from separating.

  • Melt the butter in a saucepan and transfer 2 tablespoons to a small bowl for later.
  • Add 3 tablespoons of honey mustard, 2 tablespoons of everything bagel seasoning, and 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce to the butter left in the pan. Stir the mixture until it is thoroughly blended and brush it over the cut sides of the rolls.
  • On the bottom section of rolls, arrange the thinly sliced ham and sliced or shredded cheese.

Variations

  • Instead of honey mustard, use plain Dijon, yellow mustard, or a favorite gourmet mustard.
  • Swap out the fontina cheese for some Swiss cheese, mozzarella, mild cheddar, or another melty cheese.

How to Store Ham and Cheese Sliders

  • Refrigerate well-wrapped sliders within 2 hours of cooking and eat within 3 to 4 days.
  • To freeze leftover ham and cheese sliders, wrap the individual slicers in plastic wrap then wrap in foil. Transfer them to a freezer bag, label the bag with the name and date, and freeze for up to 3 to 4 months. Defrost the ham and cheese sliders in the refrigerator overnight.
  • Wrap leftovers in foil (remove any plastic wrap) and heat in a preheated 350 F oven for 10 to 15 minutes, until hot.
