Ingredients

  • 16 ounces fresh strawberries
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water (or orange juice)
  • Juice and finely grated zest of 1/2 lemon
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Rinse the strawberries thoroughly and drain well. Hull and slice the strawberries.
  2. In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, and lemon juice. Bring to a light boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the lemon zest and strawberries to the syrup mixture. Heat through and then stir in the butter.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool. Chill for serving over ice cream or desserts or serve warm over pancakes, biscuits, or waffles.
