Instant Pot Beef and Farfalle Dinner

Farfalle, aka bowtie pasta, makes a delicious and fast meal when cooked in the Instant Pot with ground beef and a rich tomato sauce.

Savory pasta with ground beef and tomato sauce garnished with fresh herbs.

This hearty Instant Pot beef and farfalle dinner is fast, flavorful, and family-friendly. Brown the ground beef, add the rest of the ingredients, and let the pressure cooker handle the rest. It’s similar to American chop suey or goulash, but made with bowtie pasta instead of elbows. Farfalle holds its shape beautifully under pressure and soaks up the rich tomato sauce with every bite. Garnish the dish with fresh herbs for a simple and satisfying one-pot meal.

Recipe Variations

  • Use ground turkey or Italian sausage instead of ground beef.
  • Add chopped bell pepper, celery, or mushrooms with the onion.
  • Use fire-roasted tomatoes or add a pinch of crushed red pepper for more flavor.
  • Stir in a handful of shredded cheddar or Parmesan after cooking for a cheesy version.

What to Serve With a Pasta Meal

  • Serve with garlic bread or buttery garlic crescent rolls.
  • Pair with a green salad dressed with vinaigrette.
  • Top with a dollop of sour cream or shredded cheese.
  • Garnish with chopped fresh basil, parsley, or chives.
  • Serve with steamed broccoli or green beans on the side.

How to Store and Reheat

Refrigerate: Let the pasta cool slightly and transfer it to a sealed container.
Refrigerate within 2 hours and use within 3 to 4 days.

Freeze: Spoon the cooled farfalle and beef mixture into a freezer-safe container or resealable bag.
Label and freeze for up to 2 months.

Reheat: Microwave individual portions in 30- to 45-second intervals, stirring in between, until hot.
For larger servings, reheat in a covered dish in a 325°F oven until heated through.
Stir in a splash of water or broth if it seems dry.
