All you have to do is blend the ingredients and simmer briefly, and you’ll have a flavorful pizza sauce in as little as 5 minutes! Besides pizza, this is an excellent sauce for pasta and casseroles. It’s also a tasty dip for fried chicken, wings, focaccia, and mozzarella sticks.

Recipe Variation

Pizza Sauce With Onions and Garlic: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Sauté 1/4 cup of chopped onion in the hot oil for 3 to 5 minutes or until translucent. Add 1 teaspoon of minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute longer. Add the sauce mixture and bring to a simmer. Simmer for 5 minutes to blend the flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 14.5-ounce can diced tomatoes
  • 1 6-ounce can tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 3/4 teaspoon dried leaf oregano
  • 3/4 teaspoon sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • dash crushed red pepper flakes, or to taste (optional)

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a food processor or blender and process until smooth.
  2. Pour the sauce into a medium saucepan; bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Lower the heat and simmer for 2 to 3 minutes to blend the flavors. 
  3. Spread the sauce over a homemade or purchased pizza crust and add your favorite toppings.
  4. Makes 2 cups, enough for two 12-inch to 14-inch pizzas.
