Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine the condensed soup, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce; blend well; reserve 1 tablespoon for the Salisbury steak patties. Set aside.
1 (10.5-ounce) can cream of mushroom soup | 1 tbsp prepared mustard | 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • In another bowl, lightly beat egg; add bread crumbs, and finely chopped onion. Season lightly with salt and pepper. Add the reserved1 tablespoon of the soup mixture and the ground beef; mix well. Shape into 4 large patties.
1 large egg | 1/4 cup bread crumbs | 1/4 cup finely chopped onions | Kosher salt | Freshly ground black pepper | 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Brown the patties well on one side (about 5 to 7 minutes); turn carefully to brown the other side for an additional 4 to 5 minutes. They should be almost fully cooked. If there’s a lot of rendered fat in the skillet, carefully drain off the excess.
    2 tbsp olive oil
  • Meanwhile, in a bowl, combine remaining soup mixture with 1/4 cup of stock, or enough to make a gravy consistency (more if you use 2 cans of condensed soup); add gravy browning sauce, if desired. Stir well.
1/4 to 1/2 cup beef stock | 1/2 tsp gravy browning sauce
  • Pour the soup mixture over Salisbury steaks. Cover the skillet and simmer over low heat for about 10 minutes or until the meat is cooked through. Remove the patties to a serving platter; spoon sauce over the meat. Taste the gravy and adjust the seasoning, if needed.
  • Sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley if desired.
