Recommended Equipment

  • Mixing bowl

Instructions

  • In a large saucepan, combine butter, evaporated milk, sugar, and cocoa.
1/2 cup butter | 1/2 cup evaporated milk | 2 cups granulated sugar | 5 tbsp unsweetened cocoa
  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a full rolling boil, stirring frequently. Once it reaches a full boil, continue boiling for 1 minute.
  • Start timing only after the mixture reaches a full rolling boil. If underboiled, the cookies may not set; if overboiled, they can turn dry and crumbly.
  • Remove from heat; stir in oats, vanilla, and coconut, if using.
    3 cups quick-cooking oats | 1 tsp vanilla extract | 1/2 cup coconut (optional)
  • Drop by tablespoonfuls onto waxed paper.
  • Let them cool until set.
