Strawberry sauce is a simple way to enjoy fresh strawberries, and it is the ideal all-purpose dessert sauce. Spoon it over ice cream, cake, pancakes, or biscuits.

Ingredients
  

  • 16 ounces strawberries
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Juice and finely grated zest of 1/2 lemon
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  • Rinse the strawberries thoroughly and drain well. Hull and slice the strawberries.
  • In a saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch, water, and lemon juice. mix to blend. Bring to a light boil over medium-high heat.
  • Add the lemon zest and strawberries to the syrup mixture. Lower the heat and simmer for 4 to 5 minutes. Stir in the butter.
  • Remove from heat and let cool. Chill for serving over ice cream or desserts or serve warm over pancakes, biscuits, or waffles.
