Single-serve shirred eggs are a great way to start the day. Just pop them in the oven, add cheese near the end, and breakfast is ready in about 20 minutes.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 tsp butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 to 2 tbsp grated Parmesan, Gruyère, or cheddar cheese

  • Butter the ramekin and heat the oven to 350°F.

  • Break the eggs into the ramekin, then top with the cream and a sprinkle of salt and pepper.

  • Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the whites are set and the yolks are cooked to your liking. Top with the cheese and continue baking for 2 to 4 minutes, or until the cheese has melted.

  • Tip: Baking time depends on the ramekin’s depth and width, and the eggs may take a little longer if the ramekin is placed on a baking sheet instead of directly on the oven rack.
