  • 8 to 12 grape tomatoes, halved or chopped
  • 6 strips cooked and crumbled bacon (optional)
  • 8 slices American cheese (or about 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese)

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, undisturbed, for 4 minutes. Add the chopped onion and continue cooking, stirring frequently, for about 4 to 6 minutes or until the onion is translucent and ground beef is no longer pink.

  • Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more. Drain off excess fat.

  • Add the steak seasoning, kosher salt, pepper, and breadcrumbs to the meat; stir to blend. Remove the skillet from the heat and set it aside to cool slightly.

  • In a medium bowl, whisk eggs with mustard, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce.

  • Stir in chopped dill pickle.

  • Add the slightly cooled ground beef mixture to the bowl along with 1/2 cup of shredded cheese and stir to blend.
    1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Pack the meat and cheese mixture into the pie plate and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the pie to a rack, top it with the bacon (if using) and tomatoes, then arrange the American cheese (or about 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese) over the tomatoes.

  • Return the cheeseburger pie to the oven and bake for 5 to 10 minutes longer, or until the cheese topping has melted.
