  • In a mixing bowl with an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese until smooth; beat in the butter, salt, and vanilla until well blended.
    8 ounces cream cheese | 1/2 cup unsalted butter | 1/8 tsp fine salt | 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

  • Add about half of the confectioners' sugar and beat on low until blended. Beat in the remaining confectioners' sugar, a little at a time, until you have a good spreading consistency.

  • Start with 4 cups of confectioners' sugar and add more only as needed. Humidity, the exact softness of your cream cheese, and personal taste can all affect how much sugar gives you the right consistency and sweetness.
