Ingredients
  

  • Cooking spray for the pan
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour, (284 grams)
  • ¾ tsp fine salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (semisweet, milk chocolate, or combination), divided

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray a 10-by-15-inch jelly roll pan lightly with cooking spray, then line it with parchment paper.

  • Combine the flour, salt, and baking soda in a bowl; stir and set aside.

  • In a mixing bowl with an electric mixer, beat the butter for about 1 minute, until creamy. Add the brown and granulated sugars and continue beating on medium-high speed for about 3 minutes, until light and fluffy.

  • Add the eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Beat in the vanilla.

  • Add the dry ingredients and mix on low speed until well blended.
  • Fold in 1 1/2 cups of the chocolate chips.

  • Spread the dough in the prepared baking pan and sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of chocolate chips evenly over the top.

  • An offset metal spatula makes spreading the thick dough to the edges of the pan much easier.
  • Bake the chocolate chip cookie bars in the preheated oven for about 22 to 26 minutes, until golden brown.

  • For clean cuts, let the bars cool completely before slicing, and use a sharp knife or bench scraper.
