Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 2/3 cups evaporated milk
  • 1 cup dates, chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, or pecans
  • 1 pie crust, unbaked, 9-inch

Instructions

  • Heat the oven to 375 F.
  • Combine brown sugar, salt, flour, and cinnamon in a mixing bowl. Blend in the eggs, evaporated milk, dates, and nuts.
  • Pour the mixture into the unbaked pastry shell.
  • Bake the pie for 45 to 50 minutes or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean. Check the pie after about 30 minutes. Protect the crust edge with a pie shield or foil ring if it is over-browning.
  • Serve this pie with a scoop of ice cream or a dollop of whipped topping.
  • Note: This is a fairly rich pie, so you might want to serve smaller portions.
