This rutabaga and carrot combination is a simple way to enjoy these delicious root vegetables. A bit of nutmeg complements the vegetables perfectly.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups diced rutabaga
  • 2 medium carrots, diced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • dash ground or freshly grated nutmeg, or to taste
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Put the diced rutabaga and carrots in a medium saucepan. Cover with water and about 1 teaspoon of salt and bring to a boil. Cover the pan and reduce the heat to low; continue cooking for about 20 minutes or until the vegetables are tender. Drain thoroughly.
  2. Add the butter and mash until fairly smooth. Season with nutmeg, salt, and pepper to taste.
