The Instant Pot pressure cooker is a great way to cook cabbage. All you need is a few minutes to chop the cabbage, some chicken or vegetable broth, and basic seasonings. The cabbage cooks to perfection in just 6 minutes! Allow 8 to 10 minutes for the pressure to build.

Recipe Variations

  • Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of caraway seeds with the cabbage for a traditional flavor.
  • Use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth for a vegetarian version.
  • Transfer the cabbage to a casserole dish, top with a melty cheese, and bake in a 350°F oven until the cheese is melted.
  • Add sautéed onions or garlic before pressure cooking for more depth of flavor.
  • Stir in a splash of apple cider vinegar or lemon juice for brightness.
  • Replace some of the butter with olive oil for a lighter dish.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve with corned beef, glazed ham, pork roast, or smoked sausage.
  • Add to a grain bowl with roasted potatoes, carrots, and kielbasa or tofu.
  • Toss with cooked egg noodles or spaetzle for a quick main dish.
  • Pair with pierogies, schnitzel, or roasted chicken.
  • Use leftovers in a veggie hash with potatoes and bacon or sausage.

How to Store and Reheat Leftover Cabbage

Refrigerate. Transfer the cooled cabbage to an airtight container. Refrigerate within 2 hours of cooking and consume within 3 to 4 days.

Freeze. Place the cooled cabbage in a freezer-safe container or resealable freezer bag. Label with the date and freeze for up to 2 months. Note that the texture may soften slightly after freezing.

Reheat. Warm in a skillet over medium-low heat until heated through, or microwave in short intervals, stirring occasionally. Add a splash of broth or butter if needed.
