Recipe Variations

  • Add raisins, dried cranberries, or other dried fruit to the egg mixture.
  • Instead of cinnamon, flavor the egg mixture with a pumpkin spice or apple spice blend.
  • Serve the French toast casserole with a fruit sauce, caramel, or compote instead of maple syrup.

What Goes With French Toast?

  • Nuts: Toasted pecans or walnuts can add crunch to the dish.
  • Meat: Add breakfast meat, such as crisp cooked bacon, sausage patties or links, or sliced ham.
  • Avocado: Add avocado slices to the plate.
  • Potatoes: Serve French toast with home fries or hash browns.

How to Store and Reheat

Refrigerate: Let the casserole cool completely, then cover tightly or transfer to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Freeze? This dish can be frozen, though the texture may soften slightly. Wrap tightly in foil or transfer portions to freezer-safe containers and freeze for up to 2 months.

To Reheat:

Warm individual servings in the microwave or reheat the full casserole, covered, in a 325°F oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until heated through.
