Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups (284 grams) all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups chocolate chips, semisweet, milk chocolate, or combination, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F and grease a 10-by-15-inch jelly roll pan.
  2. Combine the flour, salt, and baking soda in a bowl; stir and set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl with an electric mixer, beat the butter for about 1 minute, until creamy. Add the brown and granulated sugars and continue beating on medium-high speed for about 3 minutes, until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Beat in the vanilla.
  5. Add the dry ingredients and mix on low speed until well blended.
  6. Fold in 1 1/2 cups of the chocolate chips.
  7. Spread the dough in the prepared baking pan. A metal spatula works well for spreading the thick dough.
  8. Bake the chocolate chip cookie bars in the preheated oven for about 22 to 26 minutes, until golden brown.
  9. Cool before slicing.
