  • 1 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon table salt
  • 3 ounces semisweet chocolate, melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 300 F.
  2. Beat the butter and sugar in a bowl with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add the vanilla, salt, and melted chocolate and beat until blended.
  3. Stir in flour, mixing gently until thoroughly blended.
  4. Spread batter into a greased 9-by-13-by-2-inch baking pan.
  5. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until the center is set.
  6. Cool in pan and cut into 1 1/2- x 2-inch bars.
  7. Carefully remove chocolate shortbread bars with a metal spatula.
