Heat the oven to 350 F. Grease and flour 1- x 15-inch jelly roll pan.
In a mixing bowl with an electric mixer, beat the butter and brown sugar together until smooth and well blended. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the vanilla.
Sift together the dry ingredients and add to the butter and sugar mixture. Stir until well blended.
Fold in the nuts and chocolate chips.
Spread the batter in the prepared pan and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until set and golden brown.
