Skillet Swiss Steak
by , Updated April 5, 2017
This easy skillet Swiss steak is made with round steak and tomatoes. I used chili style tomatoes, but feel free to use plain or stewed tomatoes in this recipe. Add rice or noodles, crusty bread or rolls, and a tossed salad for a perfect meal.
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour 55 minutes
Total Time: 2 hours 10 minutes
- Cut the round steak into serving-size pieces. Combine flour, salt, and pepper; pound the mixture into round steak with meat mallet.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the meat, turning to brown both sides, about 8 to 10 minutes total. Add the chopped onion and tomatoes; cover and cook the Swiss steaks over low heat for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
- Add bell pepper and continue cooking for about 30 minutes longer, or until steak is very tender.
- Skim off excess fat.
- Taste and add salt and pepper, as needed.
