Skillet Shrimp Gumbo

print This easy gumbo-style shrimp and okra dish is great with rice. This skillet gumbo is made without the classic roux, but it's easy and flavorful, with fresh okra, shrimp, tomatoes, and seasonings.

Total Time: 55 minutes



  1. Heat oil in a large skillet; add okra and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add shrimp, garlic, green onions, salt and pepper; simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. Add water, tomatoes, and bay leaves to the skillet; cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Remove bay leaves; stir in Tabasco sauce.
  3. To serve, place generous scoop of rice in each of 6 bowls. Spoon shrimp mixture over the rice.
Serves 4 to 6.
