Mississippi Fried Oysters

fried oysters with tartar sauce


These basic fried oysters are delicious with tartar sauce, remoulade, or a cocktail sauce. Enjoy with fries or use the fried oysters to fill a po' boy.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:


Instructions:

  1. Heat the oil in a deep, heavy skillet or deep-fryer to 370 F.
  2. Meanwhile, drain the oysters and add them to the beaten eggs. Let stand for 10 minutes.
  3. In another bowl combine the cornmeal, sugar, salt, pepper, and flour.
  4. Dip the oysters in the cornmeal mixture and fry them in batches in the hot oil until golden brown.
  5. Drain on paper towels.
